Optos Imaging – Optomap Retinal Exam

Your retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. Eye conditions, diseases and health risks are detectable in the retina, including early signs of life-threatening diseases like cancer, stroke, aneurysm, and cardiovascular disease.

The Optomap Retinal Imaging captures more than 80% of your retina in a panoramic image (traditional methods typically only show 15% of your retina at a time.) In a matter of seconds our Harlingen eye doctors can take a comprehensive and detailed evaluation of your retina. For many patients dilation drops are not necessary, but our doctors will decide if your pupils need to be dilated depending on your conditions.

Optical Coherence Technology (OCT)

This laser imaging system is utilized for early diagnosis of glaucoma, diabetes, and age related macular degeneration. This highly sophisticated device provides a virtual biopsy of your eye by imaging all seven layers of the retina at half the size of a red blood cell. By doing this, we can see the inception of eye diseases before vision damage occurs.

Visual Field Test

The visual field test is a subjective measure of central and peripheral vision and is used to diagnose, determine the severity of, and monitor glaucoma. The most common visual field test uses a light spot that is repeatedly presented in different areas of your peripheral vision.
